At ECOS, we use precise lighting temperature and accuracy to produce the best possible paint color match.
Lighting conditions at home (or on site) will vary depending on a variety of factors, including:
- The time of day/season
- The geographic location
- The amount of natural sunlight allowed
- The nature of any artificial light used
With this inherent variation, our professional color matching team has selected a standard that best represents a consistent, identifiable, appropriate, and meaningful constant for our paint color matching process.
For color matching, we use two specific light characteristics:
Temperature: 5000 Kelvin (K) – CIE standard illuminant, simulating average daylight, with the appearance of near-white light, described as “warm daylight,” similar to the sun around sunrise, or sunset.
Color Rendering Index: 95+ - This standard ensures the light accurately reveals the true colors of an object when compared with natural light. For critical color evaluation, this minimum threshold is essential.
While there are many possible combinations, some of which could be tailored for a specific task (maximizing visibility, creating a specific mood, or reducing glare) or location (an office, shopping mall, or gym), the combination we selected represents an appropriate, real-life option that’s well-suited for the purpose of choosing and displaying colors in a home environment.
